Does your work connect to what really matters to you?
How do your deepest passions meet the world's urgent needs? Are the projects, initiatives, and business efforts you go about every day designed to achieve the greatest impact?
This workshop is for people who want to create transformation in their own lives, in their organizations, and in the world through their work. In this workshop, you will experience the Sea Change Design Process SM, using design thinking and techniques to clarify what “meaningful work” means to you. Work worth doing expresses your calling and produces sea changes: positive, profound, and lasting transformations. Greater productivity, prosperity, and peace follow naturally.
What to expect
Over the course of three days, you will be guided through a process of discovering and remembering what matters most to you, then designing work that express your authentic self and has real impact. It begins on the first day with guided reflection, using a technique called Intentioning, which leads to the creation of your calling: a clear intention that you can answer in many ways over your lifetime. On the second day you will learn other techniques like Rippling SM and Fathoming SM: tools for planning how your work will affect the world. By the end of the third day, you will have a plan for how to begin carrying out the work you designed in the workshop.
The workshop is a combination of lectures, visualizations, writing, and storytelling. It will take place in an interactive, design studio format, so please come prepared to create and communicate! (No training or talent is required, only willingness.) We will provide all materials.
By attending this workshop, you will gain:
. Access to your creative capability
. Insights into what is profound and meaningful in your work and the world
. Answers to what sources your creative inspiration, acts, and commitments
. Ability to design a Creative Continuum in your work or organization
. Experience with a powerful design tools from the Sea Change Design Process

Who should take this workshop?
This workshop is for emerging and active leaders committed to creating positive change. It is designed for those who are looking inward at enhancing their own personal creativity, as well as business leaders who know creativity is the lifeblood of all organizations. This is ideal for groups of entrepreneurs, colleagues, and partners who want to explore their work together. Experience the same process in an intimate setting that has been used to ignite creativity at Intel, Sun, Procter & Gamble, startups, and small and medium-sized companies.
Do you have the creative advantage? Do you know how to plan for impact? In today's intensely competitive, crowded, and frenetically-paced global marketplace, it becomes paramount to rise above the sea of commoditization. Creativity is forming the next economic wave and only those who can access it, direct it, and harness it, will continue to provide lasting value, strengthen employee, client, and customer relationships, and design a viable future. Creativity is not sourced from market-driven mania or top-down management directives. It sources from a calm, creative center within each of us that flows into innovative actions and sustainable commitments. It's a continuum that begins with those who create transformation within themselves. These are the ones who are consciously designing change in the world.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by:
. Lauralee Alben, President of Alben Design LLC; creator of the Sea Change Design Process; and Founder of the Sea Change Design Consortium
. Marc Rettig, Principal of Fit Associates; a leading figure in the field of design research and interaction design; and Founding Partner of the Sea Change Design Consortium
Space is limited to 20 participants to ensure an intimate learning environment and maximum interaction with Lauralee and Marc.
The workshop includes a Designing Work Worth Doing workbook and a DVD of Designing a Life Worth Living: Stories of Integrity, Innovation, and Sustainability by Lauralee Alben.
"Experiencing the Sea Change Design Process has shifted not only how I approach my work, but how I approach my life. It forces people to challenge underlying assumptions; to examine the inter-relatedness of products, services, relationships, and actions; and to consider outcomes from a world view rather than only a corporate or personal view. This is the most powerful planning process I've ever experienced."
